A Day in my Digital Life

In the comfort of my blankets all I can hear is my puppy whining in his crate, it's time to wake up. My phone lights up letting me know its 7am and I use the flashlight to find my way around my bedroom throwing on the nearest sweatshirt. I let Henry out of his crate and with sleepy steps we shuffle outside. Sitting on the cold patio furniture I check the text messages I received the night before and wait for the morning to begin. While Henry snuggles in my lap I enter a vortex of never ending Tiktoks, scrolling through different videos trying to pass time while Henry gets comfortable. Of course I have to send photos of Henry in the family group chat because who wouldn't want to wake up to pictures of the cutest puppy. I check Snapchat stories and Instagram and then I am off social media for the rest of the day for the most part. These apps used to be a method for me to keep up with what my friends are doing but they have more become a way for me to pass time and relax. Social media is a temporary stress release as it allows me to take a minute from the day and think of nothing else. Today my social media revolves around Tiktok as it offers a lot of diverse content. The content creators on the app are from all over the world and range from young too old giving you different perspectives on their videos.

In the beginning of social media when I was younger I felt as though I had a lot more negative experiences with different social media apps. I think I was not truly educated on how to properly be online at a younger age and I think today I view social media very differently. I felt as though growing up I needed social media as all my friends were on it rather than social media being something that I wanted to enjoy for myself.

When it comes to email I try to simply keep my inbox empty. Most of my emails from companies end up going directly to spam which honestly it's where most of them belong. The only emails I will read through come from doctors, vets, and or my package has been delivered. I find that if someone needed to reach me they know that texting me would be the best way to do so. I think so many people have become reliant on technology including myself, especially as I am doing school completely online. Not only with Covid pushing people to work remote and from their devices but the world has been involving technology practices into day to day life for years. The downfall of digital media today is the lack of communication we have in person compared to online. I find myself a lot more anxious to go out in public alone and to new places. Simple things such as grocery shopping has become "well why don't I just order it online"
